Why Unite Kentucky is canvassing in your neighborhood

Because we believe in Kentucky. Because we believe in democracy. Because we believe all Kentuckians should have their say.

But that’s not the way things are these days in the Bluegrass State. Because the Republicans have a super majority in both houses of the General Assembly, they are pushing through an extremist agenda that in no way reflects the will of the people.

Consider these facts:

This General Assembly pushed through a near-total ban on abortion in 2022. Since then, Kentucky voters rejected soundly rejected a proposed amendment to enshrine the ban in the state constitution, but it remains in place.

The General Assembly in March passed Constitutional Amendment 2 which would permit state funding for private education at the expense of public schools. The measure now faces a statewide referendum in November.

The General Assembly in 2023 pushed a raft of bills targeting and isolating transgender people. They went after health care for trans minors and drag shows, claiming ing they “sexualize” children.

Such bills have stoked hate across the commonwealth. Shortly after Sen. Karen Berg, D-Louisville, buried her trans son, who killed himself, she became the target of vicious hate mail accusing her of killing her chid.

This is why Unite Kentucky is canvassing. We expect elected leaders to unite the state, oppose activities that endanger its citizens for merely being different, to keep health care accessible for all and fully fund our schools.

Our current leaders are doing the exact opposite on every count — with impunity.

In the final weeks of the campaign season, our team of industrious field organizers will be hard at work knocking on doors, making calls and staffing public events, all to explain that the only way to counter these hateful actions is straight-ticket Democratic voting.

But we need your help. If you can volunteer some time, or make a donation, please go to unitekentucky.com and click the donate or sign up buttons at the top of the page. With your help, we can make Kentucky a place where all can safe, welcome, and happy to call home.
